One of the big tragedies of the recent storms that flooded my house was the destruction of practically all of my Goosebumps novels. Every kid that grew up in the 90’s owns at least one of R.L. Stine’s novels and though I hadn’t picked one up in ages, I have seen an episode or two of the TV show within the past year and always get a kick out of Stine’s little pieces of goofy horror.
Sony has thrown the idea of making a Goosebumps film around for a while and while nothing was set, today it was announced that the director of Monsters vs Aliens, Rob Letterman, would be directing (though they are still in negotiations). Based on his past work, we’ll likely get a pretty faithful adaptation as while the books were creepy for kids, they also were very corny, humor-wise, so he should be the perfect guy for the job.
There is no word yet on which book they’ll focus on (Sony has the rights to 50 of them) or if they will stick with the live-action format as originally anticipated but, as a fan, I’m curious to see where this one goes. What about you? Are you excited this series is being revived?
