According to sources that have spoken to Twitch, it appears that a remake of the biblical epic, David and Goliath, is in the works from Relativity and Temple Hill Entertainment simply titled Goliath. The big news is that the Scott Derrickson (The Day the Earth Stood Still) directed project just found its Goliath in the 6’5″ man formerly known as The Rock, Mr. Dwayne Johnson.
Now I know Biblical epics are supposed to be as much story oriented as action oriented, but I honestly can’t see how that is going to work with Johnson as one of the leads. I love the guy in action roles, and I’m sure his fighting will reign supreme in the film, but he isn’t the type of actor who plays serious roles well-unless they go for the over the top Goliath. But then again I should point out that the 5’10” Taylor Lautner has been approached to play the role of David which would really take any sort of engaging acting right out of the picture. That’s what happens when you have two producers from the Twilight films involved with the project.
We will keep you up to date with this project but so far I see this as being a mediocre action oriented biblical epic more than anything. It it tries to be serious chances are it will be laughable and will turn out to be an ant in the shadow of Darren Aronofsky’s Noah’s Arc film.
What are your thoughts on the casting decision and where the project is going so far?
