A few days ago, rumors started surfacing on the internet that the star of Steven Soderbergh‘s new film Haywire had her voice altered so that it wouldn’t sound like her. When I first saw this on TMZ (Don’t judge me) I had no clue what they were talking about because to be honest, I don’t follow MMA therefore I don’t really know much about Gina Carano.
After watching her TMZ run in and then watching the trailer it is very obvious that her voice has been altered quite a bit. One might wonder why they would alter someones voice so much and we finally have an answer. Carano appeared on the podcast No Holds Barred and discussed the controversy with the altering of her voice. She said the following,
Steven Soderbergh wanted Mallory and Gina to be two completely different entities. I think in the sports world you end up falling in love with the person that is Gina Carano, and it makes it a little bit more difficult to take me and put me into a Mallory Kane type of character. And so he did do some altering and mixing… and we went back into ADR and he worked really hard at making Mallory be a different entity. And he did a really genius job in that. It’s just an honor to be part of it, whether there’s altering or not. There’s a little joke I was saying: even if he would have shaved my head and put Bill Clinton as my voice I would have still done it.
So the speculation about Soderbergh doing this behind her back can finally be put to rest. She knowingly and willing accepted the fact her voice would be altered and that didn’t disuade her from continuing on with the film. This isn’t really a big deal in the film industry and is more common than people may think. Now all the MMA fanboys who were distrought about this wrong doing can now calm down and get ready for the film when it is released January 20.
