UPDATE: According to Entertainment Weekly, it appears Ryan Gosling will not be taking the lead in The Lone Ranger. Original Story is located below
Movie Buzzers has already reported on Johnny Depp‘s interest in playing Tonto for Disney’s The Lone Ranger, but now it turns out that Ryan Gosling (All Good Things) is linked to play the title role, as per Empire Online‘s reference to The Wrap.
“Producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Pirates of the Caribbean) is overseeing the adaptation of the hero’s tale, which began on radio before moving to TV in the 1940s and 50s,” says the website. They also reveal, “you can bet it’ll find the masked lawman and his faithful sidekick Tonto busting criminals.”
Cinema Blend provides some insight for the casting duo with: “Both actors can be so mannered and out-there in their performances that it’s kind of hard to imagine them sharing the same frame, but then again, it’s a weird combination that might make for something far more interesting than your average blockbuster.”
Gosling’s possible participation may collide with his involvement in Logan’s Run. As for Depp, Dark Shadowswith Tim Burton and Kathryn Bigelow’s Triple Frontierare both currently in pre-production for this year.
Also attached is Gore Verbinski to direct, and the script is penned by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road). CNN tells us that The Lone Ranger “is scheduled to trot into theaters in 2014.“
