The Dictator, Sacha Baron Cohen‘s next starring vehicle — which is loosely adapted from a Saddam Hussein-penned novel titled Zabibah and The King — has added two more cast members — one which seems inspired, but another that seems… well, huh. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the incomparable John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) has joined the cast, which is fantastic news because he should make quite a comedic pairing with Cohen. Another name added is a bit of a head-scratcher: Megan Fox (Transformers). Fox, who has had no success to speak of outside of the Transformer films, doesn’t seem like a good fit for Cohen-style comedy, but perhaps she could prove me wrong. Perhaps.
Reilly and Fox join Ben Kingsley, Anna Farris, and Jason Mantzoukas, who will star with Cohen in the dual roles of the titular dictator and a goat herder. The Dictator is set for a May 11, 2012 release. The film is directed by frequent Cohen collaborator, Larry Charles, and the script is co-written by Cohen along with Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel, who were all co-writers on Seinfeld and the film EuroTrip, although it’s clear that the film will likely require extensive improvisation.
