Director Sam Raimi has been making headlines lately, not just for his upcoming film, Oz: The Great & Powerful, but for the rumors of his involvement in a remake of 1982’s iconic horror film, Poltergeist, which starred JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, and the late Heather O’Rourke as young Carol Ann.
According to Collider, writer of the project David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole) confirmed Raimi’s role as director, but the quote was never officially recorded. Although The Hollywood Reporter has adjusted their story in confirming that Raimi is definitely set a producer for the movie.
If this production starts to seriously get in motion, we can anticipate a fury of young actresses vying for the coveted role of Carol Ann, the curious protagonist who gets sucked into the television. All we can do is wonder… and avoid snowy channels at the wee hours of the morning.
What do you think about the possibility of a Poltergeist remake? Are you on board with the trend in Hollywood to recreate classic films? Would you like to see Raimi in the director’s chair for this?
