Jalmari Helander, the director of the very cool Finnish Christmas feature Rare Exports, hinted that his next project would be something along the lines of ‘Home Alone meets Rambo,’ an idea that got me so excited that I’m pretty sure I looked like this when I read the news:
When I started to think about what this could mean, I imagined an R-rated home invasion thriller where a 10-13 year old boy would do everything and anything to protect his home. Suffice to say I was way off the mark but it doesn’t mean that Helander’s film is going to be any less joyous, in fact, it actually makes an improvement because he somehow landed Samuel L. Jackson as a main player in the cast for the recently titled Big Game. The money for the film has finally been raised and production is set to begin this September so expect to see the film make the festival rounds in mid to late 2014. In the meantime, check out the official plot synopsis for Big Game below and put it in the back of your mind to remember for next year.
Oskari, a 13-year-old boy, will pass his manhood test by spending the night in the vast local forest, armed with bow and arrow. That night, same place, US Air Force One is shot down over Finland by terrorists, and Oskari and the American president are left on their own, trying to escape from the radicals closing in on them.
Yes, Samuel L. Jackson is playing the US president. Will he be a better on then Terry Crews? Time will only be the indicator of that.
