If you want to consistently work in Hollywood, all you have to do is make friends with Adam Sandler. Seriously, Sandler keeps casting his core group of buddies, including Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Steve Buscemi in his films or finances their projects. A more recent addition to that core group is Kevin James, who first worked with Sandler in 2007’s I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and has since appeared with the whole gang in Grown Ups (Sandler also has voiced a role in the upcoming James film Zookeeper). It’s no surprise, then, that a pitch re-teaming the two has been bought by Sony Pictures. Hit “more” to find out the details on this upcoming project.
According to Deadline.com, the Valet Guys pitch has the two as valet car parkers in South Beach who are witnesses to a murder — persumably zany antics will ensue. The film will be co-written by James‘ usual writing partner Nick Bakay, who has worked with James on Zookeeper, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, and James’ sitcom The King of Queens.
Frankly, Adam Sandler films are pretty much untouchable — excluding his more dramatic films Funny People, Reign Over Me, Spanglish, and Punch-Drunk Love, all of Sandler‘s comedy films since 2002 have consistently broken $100 million at the box office (that’s a whopping nine films) with his most recent, Grown Ups, being his second highest grossing film ever (the highest is 1999’s Big Daddy). Essentially that means studios are very willing to work with the guy, and you can’t blame them for that. I can’t say a recent Sandler comedy has made me laugh as hard as classics like Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore, but I’m always willing to give Sandler and his buddies a shot.
…Except for Rob Schneider. Stay away from that dude’s movies.
