I don’t follow nor do I know a whole lot about Stephenie Meyer‘s work. I knew she had written the Twilight Saga, but I was not aware she had other works of literature out there. Apparently she does and it doesn’t involve vampires and werewolves, thankfully. The book is titled The Host and is set to come to the big screen soon.
It was announced earlier today that Saoirse Ronanis set to star as Melanie Stryder/Wanderer. Like I said I don’t know anything about the book but here is a brief synopsis of what it’s about:
The Host revolves around Melanie, “one of the last humans putting up a fight against an alien species called Souls.” The Souls, a (fundamentally) gentle species, act as parasites and take over the bodies of whatever other species they are invading, slowly taking over their world and wiping out all traces of their personalities. Melanie is taken over by the Soul “Wanderer,” who finds herself less compelled to destroy Melanie and the other rogue humans she meets than to actually experience life as a human (specifically, as Melanie).
Sounds much more interesting then Twilight and I’m actually interested in seeing the film. The film has been scripted byAndrew Niccol, who was set to also direct the film at one point, but was replaced by Susanna White, who is now reportedly off the project.
The film is set to be sold next week at Cannes, so we will keep you updated with the outcome of that.
