Why I oughta… tell you that Will Sasso has been officially cast as Curly in Peter and Bobby Farrelly‘s Three Stooges movie!
Deadline reports that Sasso — best known for his roles on the sketch comedy show Mad TV — definitely has the look down, if nothing else. His skills as an impressionist will help him, too, although I’m not ready to anoint him the new Curly Howard until I hear him do the trademark voice!
But who will join Sasso as the other Stooges? Though I recently reported that Johnny Knoxville was being considered for the role of Moe, Deadline also reports that Hank Azaria (The Simpsons) is the leading candidate. This is an inspired choice — heck, Azaria just need to tweak his Moe the Bartender voice from The Simpsons and a bad bowl cut and he’s got it down.
The latest word on Larry though is a bit surprising. The front runner for Larry — who’s arguably the hardest Stooge to recreate (Futurama’s Billy West got his 6 year job doing voices on the Howard Stern show because he was the first person Stern had ever heard do a Larry impersonation) — is apparently James Marsden, best known as Cyclopes from the X-Men films. Frankly Marsden has never done anything quite like the Three Stooges before, so I’m surprised that he is the front runner. But perhaps Marsden has a untapped potential for comedy that he has been saving up for years.
What do you think about Sasso as Curly?
