Yesterday at Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man panel, Andrew Garfield introduced himself via a wonderful little speech at the “questions” microphone dressed up in a store bought Spider-Man costume and a fanny pack. It was a great way for him to experience Comic Con for the first time and was a solid start for Marc Webb’s panel.
While the entire cast did show up, the most important piece of footage that everyone was waiting for was the one piece that involved the movie’s villain, Curtis Connors aka The Lizard. We got to see the footage in 3D, I think, and it was actually really cool except for one complaint, The Lizard’s face looked like a Goomba from the Super Mario Bros. movie. It was really annoying to see the face without much of a snout like in the comics but other than that he was pretty bad ass. They cot the coloring down, his massive body size including the giant tail, and actually, now that I think about it, an average size tongue. The villain is played by Rhys Ifans who appeared half way through the panel and seemed a bit off, possibly on something.
As for the other footage we saw, it was mostly story based with Peter in costume for a couple of scenes. We got a clip of his interactions with Emma Stone in high school and ohw that relationship plans on forming. The movie shows promise but I’m not going to go crazy just yet. Also, seeing the first person part of the trailer in 3D made it look really cool even if it did feel artificial.
