With less then 2 weeks to go before the mecca of all comic conventions is set to take over San Diego, we are starting to get a better feel for what we can expect to see during this year’s SDCC. I will admit news has been a bit slow up until today and it seems that TV has taken over, however there were some huge confirmations today regarding films, so lets get started.
Marvel and Disney both sent out their press releases disclosing what each organization will be bringing to Hall H. Lets start with Marvel first since it is short and sweet
Saturday, July 14 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm in Hall H – IRON MAN 3
Join Producer Kevin Feige and special guests as they provide an inside look at the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Pretty straight forward if you ask me, and no there was nothing else in the press release which was a bit disheartening.
Now onto Disney who is bringing quite the load this year.
WALT DISNEY STUDIOS MOTION PICTURES will be hosting our Hall H Comic-Con panel on Thursday, July 12 from 2:05pm – 3:05pm.
Q&A panel featuring the imaginative director of Frankenweenie Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland); A special look at the world of Oz The Great and Powerful with director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy); the illustrious voice cast of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wreck-It Ralph, including John C. Reilly (Step Brothers), Sarah Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Program) and director Rich Moore (The Simpsons).
The interesting thing to note here is that the Lone Ranger won’t be attending which is a little shocking, but I’m OK with it skipping the Con, maybe they are saving it for NYCC.
Next we have Lionsgate which announced three films will be making the trip for their panel. They will be bringing The Expendables 2, The Possession and finally Dredd. We do know that both Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be on the Expendables 2 panel, but no confirmation as too who else. If I had to guess they will assemble the entire cast like they did for the first one. So far only The Expendables have a time and date which is Thursday July 12th at 4:45 PM in Hall H.
Sadly, once again Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2 will be the opening panel in Hall H again this year on Thursday July 12th at 10 AM which I guess is both a good and bad thing. The good is that it will be out of the way early, the bad is that I will have to see all the twihearts camping overnight from my hotel room. So glad this is the last one!
Finally, the other big studio that has made their announcement was WB which will be brining Man of Steel and The Hobbit to Hall H and tagging along for the ride will be Pacific Rim. WB will have Hall H from 2-5 PM on Saturday July 14th with Marvel following up behind it.
It’s interesting that there has still be no official announcement from CCI regarding the schedules. Today, they did finally release the exhibit map which once again left Mondo off, but they have confirmed they will be there at booth #437 and will be doing special drops all weekend long…I think I know where all my money will be going.
I do want to point out that Django Unchained, Umbrella Corps (Resident Evil) and Weyland Industries (Prometheus) will all be doing off site events for their respective films. What they are, is anyones guess at this point.
