The final Panel of the day Thursday was one of my most anticipated panels, The Expendables 2. From what I heard about the panel for the first one, I knew we were in for a treat with all these action stars on one stage. Unfortunately, not everyone showed up for the panel this year and the major let down was NO CHUCK NORRIS! I was devastated however the panel was extremely enjoyable and very entertaining.
In attendance were Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Randy Couture, Terry Crews and Dolph Lundgren. The panel opened up with a tribute montage of Stallone’s career which I wish would make its way online because they did a fantastic job on it. They also did the same for Arnold, however I felt Stallone’s was much better.
The clips shown during the panel were just the clips from the trailer so it was a bit of a let down really not seeing some exclusive footage, however they trailer is still amazing which you can check out below.
Most of the panel consisted of fan questions telling them how much they loved Stallone and Arnold and I sort of felt bad for the other three because they really didn’t get many questions, especially Dolph. However, some of the questions were entertaining and Arnold hinted at a few of his upcoming projects with the most interesting being the sequel to Twins, Triplets. Arnold said that he was discussing the concept with WB and they really liked the ideas and the fact that Ivan Reitman was working on a script.
There was a question asked about the first time Stallone and Arnold met and Stallone said they were at the Golden Globes and he was about to win Best picture for Rocky and Arnold was sitting at his table and he had no idea who he was. Arnold ended up winning for best newcomer and when Stallone heard Arnold’s name he made fun of it and said that he would never have a career in Hollywood with a name like that. So to make a scene and let Arnold who was boss at the table, Stallone threw flowers in the air when Rocky won and they landed on Arnold. Arnold responded by saying that Stallone’s mother asked if he was a Piano Mover. As you can tell this was more of a “remember when” panel more so than an Expendables 2 panel.
All in all the panel was entertaining and probably the best of the day, but I was still sad that there was no Chuck Norris and no one told any Chuck Norris jokes.
Here is the exclusive poster for the film given out at SDCC as well as the trailer for the film.
