The final film of the Disney panel (before the surprise) was the animated film Wreck-it Ralph, based off the 8-bit video game. In attendance was director Rich Moore who spoke a bit about the film and also brought 10 minutes of footage of the film with him to screen for the audience. Also in attendence were John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman. Moore announced that the individual providing the musical soundtrack of the Hero’s Duty would be Skrillex.
The footage was really entertaining and humorous. Fans of video games will enjoy spotting all of the iconic heroes and villains from the last 30 years of gaming. While the 10 minutes were just random clips from the film, visually it looked great and is sure to be a hit this winter.
Now on to some questions that were asked. A man asked if there were any video game characters they couldn’t get licensing to and Moore said a little plumber and his brother but wouldn’t mention names. A woman asked if John C. Reilly enjoyed doing voice acting or “real” acting which got a rouse out of the crowd. Another asked if it was a challenge to get the licensing for the video game characters for the film and Moore said they just went around asking each company if you could use their characters and surprisingly said it was fairly easy besides a few here and there.
Cool little trivia, Rich Moore worked on The Simpsons for 5 years about 22 years ago, now don’t you feel old.
Wreck-it Ralph hits theaters November 2nd and also features the voice work of Jane Lynch, Alan Tudyk and Jack McBrayer.
It wouldn’t be Hall H if Disney didn’t have a surprise for everyone and this year they showed the first piece of footage for The Lone Ranger starring Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer. While the footage was more of a teaser and didn’t give us a clear understanding of the story, what we saw looked fantastic and I can’t wait for this film, hopefully sometime next year. The tag line in the footage, “Sometimes you just have to dawn a mask”
Sadly, this was one thing Disney kept secret and exclusively for SDCC attendees. Hopefully they will release a teaser in the next month or so.
