20th Century Fox did not disappoint this year at the San Diego Comic Con except when it came to Rise of the Planet of the Apes . In the infamous Hall H fan were treated to not just exclusive clips of the upcoming film, but also an interesting interview session with Andy Serkis who plays Caeser in the film.
The panel started with a documentary reel showing a group of African military soldiers teasing a chimp with an AK-47. One soldier hands the chimp the gun and the chimp proceeds to open fire on them. Clip ends.
Andy Serkis then came out on stage to talk a bit about the motion cap that was used to turn him into Caeser and also what it was like portraying a monkey and going through this journey.
At this point, they showed another clip that shows how Caeser winds up in captivity. The scene starts off with James Franco, John Lithgow and Caeser eating breakfast. Lithgow has Alzheimer and tries cutting his egg with the wrong end of the fork. Caeser turns his fork around for him and Franco shows a bit of concern for his father. Without spilling too much of the movie, the scene continues to show how Caser winds up in captivity.
The thing that really concerned me about this panel was that they showed way too much of the film. Fans were shown the 2nd and 3rd act which is pretty much the entire film. I understand that people want to see clips of films or exclusive scenes at Comic Con but there comes a point where it’s more detrimental to a film then beneficial and this was clearly what happened with Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
