Hall H loves to reward those who wait and at the San Diego Comic Con waiting is a huge part of the experience. During 20th Century Fox’s Panel on Thursday, fans in attendance were shown exclusive clips of the highly anticipated film from Ridley Scott, Prometheus.
In attendance was Charlize Theron ,who had just flown in from Iceland where the film is currently filming. Ridley Scott was not able to make it but he did join the crowd via satellite from Iceland. Not too much information was released about the film except the filming locations and the early morning shoots.
Scott made it very clear that the film was not a prequel or sequel to the Alien films and that the only correlation that Prometheus had to Alien was some of the DNA from the original.
He proceeded to show a little bit of the footage from the film, however it was still very early and the CGI and editing was not complete. The shots were very fast and it was hard to really get a good look at the clips, but what we did see was a few of the actors in the space suits walking around of, what appeared to be, an infested ship. We weren’t shown any shots of the actual aliens themselves in the film, but attack scenes and chase scenes were shown.
In one shot in particular, it shows some of the crew walking in a huge hanger like space that was full of alien egg pods just like the ones in the original. Following this scene there was a quick glance of someone laying on a table screaming and looked like an alien was bursting from their stomach.
Even though Ridley says the film is in its own universe, the feeling seemed like it was still in his original Alien universe. The footage shown looked really good for being so rough, but I wish a quick glimpse of the aliens were shown so we could really get a feel for what to expect.
Filming is still in progress but should be wrapping up very soon. Expect a trailer and poster for the film in due time.
