I know Alex was excited to know CZ12 would be doing a panel this year but I have heard nothing about it. Luckily, Jackie Chan is hilarious and always a treat to see live.
Jackie mentioned that he was not retiring and that this wasn’t his final film, but that this would be his final major action film just because it’s so dangerous and he can’t compete with these big American films now and their SFX. He reiterated that he did all of his own stunts which is amazing especially at his age. He also mentioned that looking back at his career, he can’t believe how stupid he was doing some of the dangerous stunts that he did in prior films. The moderator asked if he thinks there will ever been another Jackie Chan in films and Jackie’s response was no because of the advances in technology and there is no need to risk ones life doing these stunts.
Regarding the film, he said that they have been working on the film non stop and still aren’t done shooting. They have been traveling all around the world filming and the film will hit theaters 12-12-12. He did have a bit of footage to show and it still amazes me that he does these stunts, they are just outrages and somehow he makes it seem so simple. He said in two months a trailer would be available for the film.
One question that was asked was if there was anyone Chan wanted to work with and he responded by saying that he has never been an “actor” and would love to work with stars like Dustin Hoffman and Robert De Niro. He said that while he won’t do any more of these action films, he plans on focusing on doing films like Karate Kid and really getting to the roots of being an “actor.” An interesting bit of info was that he was actually approached to star in The Expendables 2, however, he turned it down because he wanted to focus on CZ12. Now, he said he would be down to do it and would like to be in the 3rd one if one was made
Jackie Chan is the best and if you have never seen him in person, the man has more energy then he knows what to do with. The entire time he just stood so he could move around. The Man explained to us by sounds on how to direct a film like his and it was hilarious, with the pows, booms, ugh, ouch and oops.
If you are a fan of Jackie’s you won’t want to miss CZ12.
