After standing in line since 5 AM, the day has finally started in Hall H and the first panel of the day is none other than Django Unchained.
Attending the panel were Kerry Washington, Jamie Foxx, Don Johnson, Quentin Tarantino, Christoph Waltz, and Walton Goggins . Unfortunately neither Samuel L. Jackson nor Leonardo DiCaprio were in attendance, but that was to be expected (Maybe Sam will be here for Marvel?).
The footage that was shown was made out to be a comic con exclusive look as an extended trailer for the film, however it was the same footage that was shown at Cannes which was sort of a bummer, however the crowd loved it and the footage really got the crowd going. The first part of the panel was Tarantino giving some back story about the story itself and how he has been thinking about Django for 13 years now and felt that even though it may be controversial, we are a more mature society and can accept the film for what it is.
The film is still shooting and they have a week left and just wrapped up Jonah Hill’s scene, his role is sort of like the KKK but a group called the Regulators. Their job is to “regulate” the slaves with Tarantino stating that there is a nice interaction between Foxx and Waltz. He said it will be similar to the scene in Reservoir Dogs where they were handing out the names, but this one is probably the funniest scene he has written.
Tarantino said there was a particular character in the film that will continue on with his relative links between all of his films but wouldn’t say who. Also he said that John Shaft is the great great great great great Grandson of Django and Broomhilda (Kerry Washington).
As of right now no plans for a Kill Bill 3 either. He said he always wanted to wait 10 years or longer before revisiting it. Sorry Kill Bill fans.
So what’s next for QT? As of right now nothing, he wants to get through Django and then see where he’s at.
