So you might be wondering what is up with the title, well those were the first words out of Guillermo Del Toro‘s mouth along with some other non-family friendly words. If that doesn’t get you fired up you should see this place! Anyways lets get to the stuff you want to read, it’s Pacific Rim time!
The panel consisted of Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi.
The trailer started off with an old man and a child walking in the snow with a metal detector, then out of the fog a giant Jagger emerges with one of its arms missing and then falling to the ground. Next there was a quick montage with a giant horned Kaiju attacking a bridge and a bunch of fighter jets coming in and attempting to take the beast down with no success. The footage then cut to the crews members of the robots getting suited up and ready to defend the city. Cut to a Jagger fighting the horned Kaiju which can shoot fire and a solid Jagger punch to its face. We then see a bunch of chaos and people running around in fear. We see a few shots of the pilots controlling the Jaggers and how they operate them in twos along with Idris Elba giving a speech about preventing the apocalypse. Cut back to a bunch of the Jaggers being dropped into the ocean and then a quick cut to a Jagger delivering one hell of a hit on the horned Kaiju then cut to the title card. Let me just say the footage literally left me with goosebumps and I can’t wait for the rest of the public to see the trailer.
Since the questions are coming in fast and furiously I’m going to bullet the highlights.
- A kid asked if the Jaggers would have drills or rocket punches to pay homage to the Japanese robots. Del Toro said that there would be no drills but there are rocket punches.
- Kaijus will all have different abilities, there are 9 Kaijus and 6-7 Jaggers, they all have unique abilities . originally there were 40 different types and they did an American Idol like profile for each one.
- Another girl asked what would happen if only one person was piloting a jagger and if it was possible. Del Toro responded that this particular instance happens in the film and what happens when one of the pilots are killed while operating a jagger
- There is no F&^$ing Mo-Cap according to Del Toro because he wanted the Jaggers to seem real and all the parts functional .
- Flying monsters Sea Monsters and Monsters out the Wazoo are what we can expect and all were created specifically for the movie. The Kaijus and Jaggers were created from the inside out to give them more depth and personality.
I freaking love Del Toro, no matter where he is he is always hilarious and really loves making movies. If you ever have a chance to see him talk GO! You will not be disappointed and will be entertained the entire time.
Pacific Rim hits theaters July 13, 2013
As everyone was leaving the stage a quick teaser for Godzilla was shown. It started with a radio broadcast and a tour of a destroyed city left in the rubble, it gradually makes it way to a downed creature with six claws and scales. It quickly cuts to a bunch of dust and we get our first “dusty” look at Godzilla and let me just say, fans can rest easy Godzilla is back and better then ever.
Gareth Edwards director of Godzilla came out and said a quick word regarding the film.
- The film will be very grounded and realistic
- Reason why they decided to do a new version is because there needs to be a “kick ass” version.
This was a very short impromptu things so sorry folks not much to tell here.
