Sean Hayes is The Three Stooges’ Larry?

First it was rumored that Sean Penn was to be Larry in the Farrelly Brothers‘ Three Stooges film.  Then James Marsden.  Now Deadline is reporting that Sean Hayes (TV’s Will & Grace) has been cast as Larry alongside Will “Curly” Sasso.

I got to say this is a bit of surprise, but Hayes — who certainly is a talented comedian — has never shown much of a knack for the physical comedy that the role requires.  Not that Sean Penn or James Marsden did either, of course, but as I’ve mentioned before — Larry is perhaps the most difficult Stooge to get “right,” so Hayes definitely has work cut out for him.

Now it’s down to Moe, the leader of the Stooges.  The latest rumors have pegged both Johnny Knoxville and Hank Azaria as contenders, but since neither Sasso or Hayes were named before their announcement as their respective characters, it could turn out to be just about anyone!
