Hmmm…. so Marvel doesn’t come to terms with Iron Man 1 & 2 director John Favreau and hires Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and writer of Lethal Weapon) to direct Iron Man 3 instead. Not a bad move, since Black certainly knows a thing or two about action films, especially since he’s written a half-dozen of them. Naturally we all suspected that Black would be penning the Iron Man 3 screenplay, too. Well, not quite — according to Deadline Black will NOT be writing the script for Iron Man 3 — instead it will be written by Drew Pearce. Who’s Drew Pearce? He wrote the script for the as-yet-unproduced Runaways Marvel comic book adaptation — so he clearly knows a thing or two about the Marvel universe — and is best known for writing the British TV series “No Heroics”, a comedy about quirky superheroes. So he knows superheroes — it’s not like his only credits are out there like Alvin and the Chipmunks 4: Alvin Enters Rehab or something (NOTE: That’s not an actual movie).
However, Black is expected to have a lot of say in the scripting process — again, why hire someone with the writing resume of Black and NOT use him? — so this isn’t bad news if you happened to love Black‘s script for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (and you should!) Hey, as long as they include as much or more AC/DC in Iron Man 3 as in Iron Man 2 I’ll be happy (although it makes no sense why the filmmakers didn’t use the song “War Machine” in the actual film!)
Iron Man 3 is penciled in for a May 3, 2013 release as a sequel (in part) to 2012′s The Avengers. While not much is known about the film, Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark and it’s likely that we’ll see a few familiar faces (particularly Samuel L. Jackson‘s Nick Fury) in the sure-to-be blockbuster.
