If you’re “a pussy with a gun in your hand then don’t mess with Clive Owen in this all out, guns a blazing “Shoot ‘Em Up” action movie. It delivers on every guy’s action movie requirement wish list on such an unrealistic level that it is hard not to enjoy it, kind of like Crank 2.
Shoot ‘Em Up is an over the top, wildly fun film about “A carrot-eating, lone wolf kind of guy named Smith (Clive Owen) [who] steps in to protect a pregnant woman from a gunman–and finds himself, with the aid of a lactating prostitute (Monica Bellucci), defending the newborn child from a sleazy contract killer Mr. Hertz (Paul Giamatti) and his army of thugs (Amazon.com).”
Although the acting was nothing to cheer for when it came to the smoking hot Italian hooker that is Monica Bellucci, Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti were both likable, nailing their parts on the head. Plus, if you like either of those actors it’s hard to turn this film down because they release any tension that you might have on the screen for you, that way you don’t even have to break a sweat. If you ever wanted to escape from a realistic action movie to just utter craziness than Shoot ‘Em Up is your perfect option. The best part is you can sit back, relax and not have to think about anything-just let your brain rest for this 85 min. bullet fest.
Although the green screen was pretty bad during the skydiving scene the fighting was definitely entertaining with a climatic final kill. Throughout the movie there was a lot of blood, insane kills, and an attempt at Clint Eastwood style one-liners. If you’ve never seen someone die by the “hands” of a carrot, gun fights with a baby in one hand, or see someone battle during sex then, my friends, you ain’t seen nothing yet! It’s just great entertainment.
This is the type of movie that you go to when you only want to see action and plot is thrown out the window. This movie was made for one reason only, to kick ass and take names.
Overall, Shoot ‘Em Up is a ridiculously awesome movie that doesn’t require a brain to watch but will deliver the goods during some of the craziest action scenes that I have ever seen to date.
Rating: An ass kicking, action packed gun show that doesn’t require any intelligence to watch
