It seems that remaking/revamping fairy tales films is the new “IN” item in Hollywood and it seems Disney will continue on with the trend when production begins on their Sleeping Beauty remake, Maleficent. Some might remember the film as originally having Tim Burton attached to directed but later left the project and allowed for Robert Stromberg to step up to the plate. Now we have confirmation that Angelina Jolie is still attached and will play the wicked witch in the film.
THR caught up with Jolie while attending the Berlin International Film Festival where she was promoting her film, In the Land of Blood and Honey.
I haven’t acted in two years, and I haven’t done anything else since this [Land of Blood and Honey]. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie
Now even though Jolie didn’t mention the title of the film, everyone pretty much knows which film she is referencing here. Back in December, Jolie explained her choice and reasoning for her desire to star in the Disney film.
The best thing to find that balance is to do something that is just for children. You know, you find different ways to make things matter. When, for example, you do fun action movies, they are empowering for my daughters.
With Jolie making Maleficent her top priority, this will push back the David Fincher Cleopatra film as well as the Luc Besson thriller and sadly is looking like Wanted 2 might have to move on without her if it does get made. For a woman who is coming off a two year acting hiatus, I don’t see her rushing into to many more films in the near future.
