One of my favorite games growing up was Need for Speed Underground 2, a game in which I gave plenty of hours to during my early high school years. After that game, I played a few of the other Need for Speed games, like Carbon and Most Wanted, and they always found a way to keep me entertained. So excites me to report that it looks like we’re going to be seeing the franchise getting the big screen treatment.
Deadline recently broke the news that DreamWorks is close to acquiring the movie rights from Electronic Arts. John Gatins, the screenwriter of Real Steel is attached to produce while his brother George is the one who penned the script. This is a role reversal as George is usually the one who produces.
It will be curious to see what storyline they decide to go with or if it will be something we haven’t seen in the games before. I’m hoping that we’ll get to see some true supercars in the film actually racing unlike in the Fast and the Furious franchise, which it has to differentiate itself from. I personally think this is a great idea, I just hope they find a way to make it fun and adrenaline pumping.
Also, in case you never saw this, Michael Bay directed a trailer for Need For Speed: The Run which you can watch below. I wouldn’t mind seeing that trailer realized in a live action feature as it’s pretty epic.
