Above you can see part of the first official photo of Andrew Garfield in the full Spider-Man costume from Columbia’s Spider-Man reboot, now officially titled The Amazing Spider-Man (hit the jump for a full and larger version). The title’s been a long time coming and isn’t a surprise, since many figured the studio would have to use a somewhat different name to set the upcoming film apart from the original Spider-Man film, which was released less than a decade ago. The Amazing Spider-Man, the title of Marvel Comic’s longest-running series based on the webslinger, was the most obvious choice.

I’ve never been a fan of the Spider-Man movie costumes simply because they look too professional, and this is no exception. After all, I can buy that millionaires Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark can afford to build their own high-tech suits simply because they’ve rich. But Peter Parker? We’re talking about a kid who had to enter a wrestling match for a few thousand bucks to buy a car. Sure, he may have a genius-level intellect (enough to build those webshooters — nice to see those!), but that doesn’t mean he has the money or material to build something that looks like a cross between Under Armor and NASA. I mean, I don’t expect the costume to look like a high school student’s gym clothes, but I think this is a little much.
All right, I get hung up on the little details. So what? If you visit this website, you probably do too!
The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield as the titular hero, Emma Stone as lady love Gwen Stacy, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, Sally Field as Aunt May, and Denis Leary as Captain George Stacy. The film is directed by Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) from a script by James Vanderbilt (The Losers, Zodiac). The film is set for a July 2012 release.
