Last week I was graciously invited to attend the premiere of Lars von Trier’s sexually charged dramatic epic, Nymphomaniac Vol. 1. to cover the red carpet and see the film. It was a fascinating experience and the film was surprisingly good. While on the carpet I had a chance, along with a few other reporters, to speak with one of the lead stars of the film, Stacy Martin, a promising newcomer who talks about why she decided to make Nymphomaniac her first feature film.
Could you have chosen a harder movie as your first movie? Why did you decide to do this one?
I think as a first movie it’s great, it just shows that as an actress I’m ready to take parts that are challenging, that are difficult and that’s what I love about acting. You can go so far and the character that I play, Joe, is so different from who I am and it was incredible privilege to Lars on a first film. You can’t say no if It’s your first film and it’s a Lars Von Tried film and you’re a fan of his work, you have to say yes.
What was your first reaction when you read the script?
I loved it. I mean the script was very long which I didn’t know back then because it was the first script I ever got sent and I thought it was a standard thing and everyone was going “it’s really long, you don’t have to read it” and I said “oh, I read it already, I love it.” It’s where you enter a universe, it’s like a real tale, it’s perfect, it is incredible.
The Magnolia Pictures premiere was presented by Interview and Absolut Elyx, all of whom I’d like to thank for allowing Movie Buzzers to cover the event.
