It’s 2003. You’re Sylvester Stallone, once a blockbuster action film star, are now nearly sixty and reduced to playing the lead villain in a Spy Kids movie. What do you do? Well, if nobody is offering you any good roles, you have to offer them to yourself — thus Stallone wrote and directed Rocky Balboa (2006), Rambo (2008), and The Expendables (2010), three films that may have polarized critics but were successful at the box office and won back the respect of fans who had abandoned him. Pretty impressive comeback, even for a man who’s best known for playing a boxer. Though Stallone is planning on trying to recapture lightning in a bottle with The Expendables 2, before that gets off the ground he has finally agreed to appear in a film that he will not direct (the first time since the aforementioned Spy Kids 3-D). After the jump you’ll find out all the info about the film, including what role Stallone will play…
Wayne Kramer (Crossing Over, Running Scared, The Cooler) will direct Stallone in Headshot, with a script by Alessandro Camon (The Messenger). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Stallone will star as a New Orleans hitman (uhh… I love the guy but let’s hope he doesn’t try an accent) who partners up with an NYPD detective “in a high-stakes investigation that leads from the dingy back alleys of New Orleans all the way to the power corridors of Washington, D.C. The unlikely duo, brought together by two vicious murders, take on all who stand in their way, and are willing to sacrifice everything to exact revenge.” Sounds exactly like the type of film we all want to see from Stallone! The film is set to start shooting in May.
