The latest trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s controversial scientology film, The Master, has finally reached the web and it doesn’t disappoint. The film released a bit of a teaser trailer a couple months back which featured Joaquin Phoenix, but there wasn’t much of a plot to it to help give us an idea as to what we could expect. We do know that Anderson supposedly showed the film to his buddy Tom Cruise, who we all know is a big-time player in Scientology, and Cruise apparently was disgusted with the film. Great news for us, bad news for Scientology.
In the trailer below, we get our first look at Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the WWII veteran Lancaster Dodd, who decided to create his own religion. The character Dodd, is based off L. Ron Hubbard and seems to bring the creepiness and charm of him to life. Also in the trailer we get our first look at Amy Adams as Dodd’s wife.
While the film is not a biopic of L. Ron Hubbard, it seems that the film is doing a nice job of portraying him. I don’t know much about Scientology but I do know they don’t like people talking about them, much less making a film about them or even loosely about them. Let’s hope the film make it to the big screen before they can stop it, because the trailer looks amazing.
Here is the trailer for The Master, which hits theaters October 12th.
