Already worrying that The Office is going to go down the tubes with the impending departure of Steve Carell? Well, you’ll be able to get your Dwight Schrute fix in Super, a superhero comedy starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Paige. During this weekend’s Toronto International Film Festival the film was purchased by IFC Films, though a release date has yet to be determined. Might as well jump to get more!
I for one am still waiting for the “definite” superhero comedy. The whole genre is ripe for parody — imagine what Mel Brooks could have done with superheroes! — although the results have been pretty underwhelming so far. We’ll see if “The Crimson Bolt” Wilson, Ellen Page (as his sidekick “Boltie”), and Kevin Bacon (playing… a drug dealer?) can deliver what we’ve been waiting for.
Writer/director James Gunn celebrated IFC’s purchase with the following twitter message: “In celebration I am right now jerking off over my deal memo!! Whoo hoo!!”
Uh… Right. There’s excitement, and then there’s crossing the line. You stay classy, Gunn.
