Today has been a good day for horror films with two of the most talked about films bringing something new to the table. The first was the secret midnight showing at SXSW this year, Sinister, with the first trailer for the film being released. Also released today was the final poster for the horror anthology that has been making a name for itself around the festival circuit, V/H/S.
Both films were shown at SXSW this year and I was able to catch both of them. While I was a huge fan of Sinister I was a bit let down with V/H/S and felt the hype was overdone. You can read my review for Sinister here and also the review for V/H/S here.
First up is the trailer which stars Ethan Hawke in his first horror film of his career and it’s a good one. Here is the synopsis for the film:
A true crime novelist struggling to find his next big story discovers a box of home videos showing other families being brutally murdered, but his investigation soon leads him to a supernatural entity that may be placing his own family in harm’s way.
Now tell me after watching that trailer, you aren’t the least bit scared. Movie is insane and one of the best I have seen in years. October 5th can’t come soon enough.
Next, the horror anthology V/H/S gets a new one sheet and is a bit more creative then some of the stories in the actual film. V/H/S was directed by Adam Wingard, Glenn McQuaid,Radio Silence, David Bruckner, Joe Swanberg and Ti West. There really isn’t much of a story line with the film but in a nut shell, a group of friends are hired to break into what looks to be an abandoned home and steal a V/H/S tape, however once inside they find more tapes then expected. Without spoiling anything they begin watching the tapes and lets just say, there aren’t family vacation videos on these VHS tapes.
V/H/S hits theaters on October 5th as well but will be available On-Demand beginning August 31.
