I love writing about new Takashi Miike projects because they always sound so awesome and that couldn’t be truer with the latest film he’s signed on to direct, As God Says aka Kamisama no lu Tori.
As God Says is an adaptation of Kanshiro Muneyuki’s popular manga and will star Sota Fukushi as a regular teenage boy who gets caught up in a game with other teenagers where the penalty for failing to do whatever it is they have to do is death. Yeah, this sounds like an awesome Miike version of one of my favorite cult films, Battle Royale (screw those PG-13 Hunger Games films even if I did like the second one).
Miike described the film in pretty simple terms: “They live, some heads roll, they run, blood sprays, they cry, they laugh and then they die – in other words, a fun movie.”
This sounds like something I’m absolutely going to see, especially since the last film I saw of his, Lesson of the Evil, involved a lot of blood and teenage killings, and we all know Miike knows how to kill people on screen so it should be ufn as he says.
According to Variety, the film is set to go into production in June of 2014 and then will be released by Toho in Japan that fall. Talk about an insane turnaround time.
Keep this on your radar for next the end of 2014 because you know someone is going to be showing this at a festival.
