It’s now become a Hollywood norm: the reboots, remakes, and the re-envisioning of films released nowadays. With that comes new details on the reboot to the Terminator franchise, officially called Terminator Genesis. Paramount Pictures is about to start filming in Atlanta, GA and New Orleans, Louisiana and we have learned that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be reprising his role as the T-101. Genesis will also star Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke (The Great Gatsby) as John Connor, and Jai Courtney (Divergent) as Kyle Reese. Finally, some story details are starting to trickle down and this is what we’ve found out so far.
“Genesis” will begin similarly to the first Terminator film. A Terminator will arrive from the future and, after discarding with a few of Earth’s thugs, begins his search for Sarah Connor. This takes place while Kyle Reese embarks on his travels through time to save Sarah and John. The film will then segue into the Terminator sequel, where the T-1000 arrives, poses as a cop, kills John Connor’s foster parents (Todd and Janelle) and searches for John and Sarah Connor to destroy them.
That’s a heck of a lot of story to pack into one film. That is, if they take care of these characters properly and still bring the action the fans are all looking for. However, Hollywood has really been failing with these reboots/remakes (in my opinion). I personally didn’t like Terminator Salvation. I really didn’t even like Terminator 3. However, if director Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World) can deliver the awesomeness from T1 and T2- I’m on board…and I’ll be back.
Terminator Genesis is to be released 2015.
