Yesterday our very own Kevin Brotman was fortunate enough to attend the L.A. preview event for Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man which you can read all about here. We learned that the trailer shown during the event would hit the public today and boy was it worth the wait. I’m not going to get into it right now so go ahead and check this bad boy out, I promise you won’t be disappointed at all!
Pretty Awesome huh!
Well now, let’s get into what we all just saw. Obviously the first thing to point out is that this is not the Sam Raimi Spider-Man we are used to. This Spider-Man is more cocky and actually embraces his power as oppose to Raimi‘s Spider-Man who always seemed on the throws of depression. Andrew Garfield has pulled off the Spider-Man I grew up knowing and loving. The main thing that really stands out to me in the trailer is the development of the web shooters. I never liked the organic version of Spider-Man because it was always weird to me, with this we have potential to see what we read and saw in the comic and TV series and that is Peter running out of fluid. I know we saw this sort of in Raimi‘s version but that was again just weird. It was as if Spider-Man lost his mojo and had to get it back, almost like Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Fans for the first time also get a chance to see The Lizard, though they still don’t get a great look in his entirety. I’m sure Sony did this for a few reasons and one might be due to the rendering being done on the CGI. It takes a very long time to render something so detailed and over time will gradually get better looking and much crisper. Why show the audience an incomplete version like they did with Green Lantern and then have to deal with all the bad PR?
Overall, I think most will be very pleased with what they get come July 3rd. Also, I think this film is a prime example of people jumping to conclusions very early on in the process and having doubts for a film before ever seeing footage. All of the haters that appeared about a year ago can finally eat their words and join the rest of us in embracing the film with open arms.
The Amazing Spider-Man hits theatres in 2D and 3D July 3, 2012. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen and Sally Field.
