I think it’s safe to say that Martin Scorsese, who is known for loving everything about classic film, was a big fan of The Artist, the black and white silent film that won Best Picture at this year’s Oscars. So I don’t think it’s any surprise that Jean Dujardin, the star of the film who took home the Best Actor Oscar for The Artist, has been cast in Scorsese’s next film The Wolf of Wall Street. Dujardin will appear as Jean-Jacques Handali, a crooked Swiss banker.
The film will tell the true-life story of Jordan Belfort, whose hard-partying and criminal business practices in his financial firm Stratton Oakmont inspired the film Boiler Room. Adapted from Belfort’s book by Terrence Winter, who collaborates with Scorsese on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, Leonardo DiCaprio is starring along with Jonah Hill and Kyle Chandler.
I can’t say that I’m looking forward to yet another movie about corrupt Wall Street hustlers, but if anyone can say the final word on the genre its Scorsese, and Jean Dujardin is definitely a positive addition.
