Early this morning Disney released the latest poster for Marvel’s The Avengers which in case you didn’t know, comes out this May. Originally, I was going to wait and post this with the new trailer that is suppose to hit tomorrow, but it’s making its way around the net now so here you go.
In the poster we get a great sense of what we pretty much already know, the earth is under attack and it’s going to be a huge mess to clean up. The interesting thing about this poster is the positioning of the characters. If you don’t know much about The Avengers, Captain America (Chris Evans) is known by many as being the leader of the group. However in the beginning, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was the actual leader and based on this poster, it seems like Joss Whedon might be going that route, but more than likely it’s probably because Downey’s face is more recognizable and will help put people in theatre seats.
There are a few flaws with the poster though. First and most noticeably, Captain America looks like a giant when scaled to the building next to him and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson). Also I don’t know what Marvel’s idea of a good photo shop job is, but this is not one of them. I really hope we get a really solid poster before May, but that might be asking for too much.
The film opens in theatres May 4 in both 3D and IMAX.
