It wasn’t even two months ago that Graham reported that as a condition for appearing in The Expendables 2, man-legend Chuck Norris demanded that the film would be PG-13. Though that rumor seemed… well, unthinkable, especially since some of Norris’ most well-known films are rated R (The Delta Force, The Way of the Dragon, Missing in Action), but Norris is a lot more religious than he was in the 1980s, and writer/star Sylvester Stallone confirmed it to AICN, saying “The PG13 rumor is true,” but insisting that “this Barbeque of Grand scale Ass Bashing will not leave anyone hungry.”
But perhaps this PG-13 business is all hogwash. AICN is now reporting that Stallone has since said, “After taking in all the odd rumors and hearsay, EXPENDABLES II is an R.” Huh, how about that.
If you think back to Norris’ original comments, his main concern was the language — so perhaps Stallone and Norris compromised by keeping the R-level violence but deleting the R-level language. Works for me if that’s true — I’ll take awesome, explosive deaths over a few f-words and s-words.
In his original post, Graham said he had no worries that the film would still be awesome, and I said that I have no doubt that an unrated version would’ve been released on Blu-ray anyway, just like the first film, no matter how this shakes out.
The Expendables 2 is set for release in August, and is directed by Simon West.
