It is official! Men have dominated women at the box office this weekend with The Expendables destroying the travelogue Eat Pray Love. Our action boys that destroyed an island in South America grossed $35 million this weekend while the Julia Roberts pic grossed $23.7 million.
First and foremost I am glad to say that ‘the call to all men’ trailer campaign seems to have worked. The brilliant marketing tactic, along with the greatest action cast known to man, all helped to solidify testosterone fueled dominance at the box office this weekend. The best part about it all is that a lot of women ended up choosing The Expendables because they knew it would be so much more fun to watch than something like Eat Pray Love-at least I think so.
I do feel a little bad though; Scott Pilgrim vs. the World should have chosen a different weekend to be released because no other fun movie could have competed with the likes of Sly, Statham, and Li. Pilgrim only managed to bring in $10.5 million which is unfortunate because of how well it has been rated but then again it is a niche comic book movie so it does make a littering le bit of sense.
With not much else left to look forward to this summer, I am glad to see that Lionsgate is making a little money now. The last good flicks they released were Kick Ass and Precious which was way back before the summer began and the next one to really anticipate is Buried starring Ryan Reynolds.
