On February 10th, history buffs and freedom-loving patriots at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois got a special treat. Tim Burton showcased some new footage for the upcoming Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and even made a special personal video introduction, just for the library patrons. For those of you who haven’t heard about it yet. Take a moment to prepare yourselves.
Step 1: clear a space on your desk. Step 2: give your neck a good stretch. Ok, you’re ready. Yes, Tim Burton has produced a new film with acclaimed Russian director Timur Bekmambetov. That movie is however NOT Dusk Watch but rather (wait for it) Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Step 3: you may now slam your forehead onto your desk.
Now that you’re past the initial, “uhg” you can take a moment to collect the particulars. Burton produced, Timur directed, add in a sprinkling of decent actors like Dominic Cooper (The Devil’s Double), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (The Thing), and Benjamin Walker (from nothing in particular) then blend with a mixture of astounding effects, epic cinematography, and the story from a wildly successful dark novel and you’ve got a recipe for, well who knows what that’s a recipe for?
Beyond the obvious silliness, the book is a New York Times best seller and by all critical accounts has been well reviewed and if anyone could pull off such a spectacular twist of history, it would be Burton and Bekmambetov. I guess audiences will just have to wait and see.
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter creeps into theaters June 30th.
