Tina Fey has hit the jackpot since her portrayal on Saturday Night Live as Sarah Palin, as well as her success as actress and writer for NBC’s hit comedy 30 Rock. But now the Pennsylvania native is currently in negotiations to star in a more dramatic role in Admission, based on the novel of the same name by Jean Hanff Korelitz. Hit the jump for more details!
TheWrap confirms that these negotiations are official, adding that the Universal production will be directed by Paul Weitz (About A Boy). Also on board is Karen Croner (One True Thing) who is set to adapt the novel for the big screen. While the project is in its earliest stages, it is definite that Fey has met with Weitz, after reading the novel.
The website reveals that the film is about “an admissions officer at Princeton and her relationship with a prospective student who may not be Ivy League material.”
Also, Collider provides these specifics about the novel, as per Amazon: “Portia Nathan, the overly dedicated 38-year-old Princeton admissions officer, narrator of Korelitz’s over thought fourth novel, finds purpose in her gatekeeper role. But her career and conscience are challenged after she visits a down-at-the-heels New England town on a scouting trip and meets Jeremiah, a talented but rough-around-the-edges 17-year-old who maybe doesn’t measure up as Princeton material. The real rub is how making his acquaintance forces Portia to confront a painful secret from her past that ties into some domestic discord with her professor friend, David, and may lead her into a career-endangering fracas with the admissions board.”
MTV.com reports that “Variety describes the film as a comedy, but the book is more of a drama. With Weitz and Fey involved, however, look for this one to dabble in both genres. Regardless, this will likely be the most dramatic role of Fey’s career.”
There is no word yet on any prospective young actors to play opposite Fey, but perhaps we can hope to see someone like Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) or Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) take on the challenging role.
IMDB currently shows the film set for 2012. As soon as more details are revealed, Movie Buzzers will be on top of the story. What do you think of Fey in this role? Have you read the book and are excited to learn about the film? Let us know your thoughts!
