American fashion designer-turned-movie director Tom Ford won critical acclaim with last year’s A Single Man, starring Colin Firth, Julianne Moore, and Matthew Goode. For those of you who don’t know, the decorated and stylized film is centered on an English professor who tries to go about a typical day in Los Angeles after the death of his longtime partner. Based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood, Ford was also responsible for co-writing the screenplay with David Scearce and producing the film. Hit the jump to learn more about Ford’s next project!
All we know about his next movie is that there is one! While promoting his new film, The King’s Speech due out November 26, Firth revealed that even though he has no details at this time to reveal to the public, he knows that Ford has a second project lined up. According to StyleIte, during an interview with indieWire, Firth explained, “Ford has dropped hints in the past, saying that it will be ‘very different’ from his first movie and will develop it ‘from scratch.’” This is an exciting indication that the award-winning director will be crafting an original screenplay for eager audiences who want more from Hollywood’s latest and greatest multi-tasker.
Of course there isn’t much else to say about this second upcoming project, except that we hope to hear more! Although, it doesn’t look like Firth will have any free time to reignite cinematic magic with Ford since he’s completed Main Street with Orlando Bloom (Pirates of the Caribbean), Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island), and Amber Tamblyn (127 Hours), and is currently filming the thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight) and Thomas Hardy (Inception). Up next, Firth will be starring in the period piece drama, The Promised Land.
If you’re still seeking more information about Ford’s current projects, there’s always his fashion line to consider. His newest secret spring collection has been photographed for the December issue of Vogue, even though it won’t be on sale until January. Also, the fashion line’s website does not go live until next month, but it seems that both the movie and fashion worlds are stirring to get their hands on anything Ford touches.
Ford’s blend of thoughtful cinematic quality and editorialized costuming for A Single Man transcended beyond Hollywood and flirted its way onto the paged of all the most popular fashion magazines during the last year.
