Well it seems that Christopher Nolan has been missing Tom Hardy lately. In a glorious move that’s got me howling like the cartoon Big Bad Wolf, Nolan has decided to reunite with the Inception star for the third and, most likely, final installment of Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
With Hardy joining Bale, Oldman and Freeman for Batman 3, one can only hope that he will be a villain rather than an artificially created “friend of Batman.” Hardy, who has been cast in a lead role, has the presence of a crime boss and it’s for that reason alone that I think he could pull off playing The Penguin; That’s if they make the Penguin skinny. One other real possiblity would be Bane. Nolan likes throwing people off with different villains, think of Scarecrow in Batman Begins, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Hardy was cast as Bane. He fits the profile and Bane is only a roided up version of Bronson, a character Hardy played two years ago. I don’t think Hardy could pull off the Riddler which is why Joseph Gordon-Levitt is strongly rumored to play the part if it is written into the script.
Many of you know Tom Hardy from Inception but he’s also held prominent roles in other great films like RocknRolla and Layer Cake. He became one of my favorite new actors after seeing him in the prison drama BRONSON, which I reviewed here. Hardy will also be starring in the continually delayed Mad Max: Fury Road but his next film will be Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy starring Mark Strong and Gary Oldman
