Cameos are a great way to add a little flair to a movie and throw the audience off with a surprise guest appearance. Over the past 20 years there have been some amazing cameos but some stand out more than others and it is now time to recognize those random people who pop up out of nowhere. While much of the required criteria is based on the humor of the cameo, there are a few cameos that don’t need humor for them to be amazing. Check out the top 10 movie cameos of the past 20 years after the jump.
10. Eminem in Funny People
Eminem isn’t always the funny man that he seems to be in some of his videos. We rarely get an opporutnity to see him anywhere else except award shows and music videos. Well, in Funny People we get to see him break outside his shell and return to the screen since his famous role in 8 Mile. In this cameo he pokes fun at Paparazzi’s and celebrity spottings. This is an overlooked cameo but one I think everyone can laugh at and appreciate.
9. Any Stan Lee Cameo
While his cameos may not be that funny or surprising anymore, Stan Lee has a knack for placing himself in the right place at the right time. Playing ‘Where’s Stan?’ is always an enjoyable part of watching any Marvel movie. Watch a compilation of Stan’s cameos below.
8. Jack Black in Anchorman
At number eight we have Jack Black’s great cameo in the movie Anchorman. Now it may not be the best moment in anchorman but Jack Black getting a burrito thrown at him and then punting a dog in rage was just a marvelous way to cap off Anchorman.
7. Bob Saget in Half Baked
This cameo is really special because it happens a few years after he wrapped up his Full House career as the loving father of the Olsen Twins. Bob Saget has one of the best lines in the movie and is what really makes our love of Bob even greater. His appearance in the film and his infamously dirty line threw everyone off and is the reason why he makes the top ten.
6. Bruce Willis/Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Expendables
While these cameos may not be funny, it is the only time so much action hero testosterone has appeared on screen. Also, remember that Arnold did this while acting as the Governator of California adding to the surprise. This may be a biased choice since it is only based off a trailer at the moment but I bet it will be great when we see this in theaters and all three stars, Stallone, Willis, and Schwarzenegger, make every man watching implode from extremely high levels of testosterone flowing throught their body.
5. Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder
Les Grossman is all I have to say. It’s this epic role that has brought Tom Cruise back into the spotlight. After his great performances at the MTV movie awards all I can now say is that there is now a Les Grossman movie in the works in which he “will own you!”
4. Christopher Walken in Pulp Fiction
Like myself, a lot of people love Christopher Walken but they also love the movie Pulp Fiction. When these two factors combine forces we have the surprise appearance of Mr. Walken in the great Tarantino flick. What makes this cameo great is the fact that it starts off as a very serious cameo and then takes a sharp turn about storing a watch in multiple asses and then handing it to a ten year old child. Image that story as told by Walken or just watch it below.
3. Bill Murray in Zomieland
In all honesty this is my favorite cameo of all time but I know better than to put it at number one. I heard rumors of a cameo in this movie but when I saw it, I thought it was so epic because it was Bill ‘Fucking’ Murrary in a Zombie movie. The five minutes of him on screen reenacting Ghostbusters, talking about his biggest regrets, and then climaxing with Jesse Eisenberg was just too good for this cameo not to make the top five.
2. Will Ferrell in Wedding Crashers
“MA THE MEATLOAD….FUCK!” Quite possibly one of the best of all time, this Will Ferrell appearance in wedding crashers is still being quoted by generation Xers around the world. While the rest of the movie can get stale after multiple viewings, this scene never does and has proven itself again and again as one of the best modern day cameos.
1. Bob Barker in Happy Gilmore
What makes this cameo number one is that unlike the Will Farrell quote, Adam Sandler’s quote spans generations. But let’s not forget that it isn’t just Sandler who makes this scene but rather Bob Barker going punch for punch with him, then kicking his ass, and the ending it all by calling him a bitch. Let’s also keep in mind that this is at a charity golf tournament so it just makes the scene that much better. This is the best cameo because it puts an old talk show host up against a young and cocky ex hockey player
Honorable Mentions: Mike Tyson in The Hangover, Wanda Sykes in Clerks 2, David Bowie in Zoolander, and Chuck Norris in Dodgeball.
