Being a huge baseball fan, I never get tired of seeing baseball movies come out and it seems like there is one solid baseball film that comes out each year recently. Last year we had Brad Pitt‘s Moneyball, this year we have Trouble with the Curve (which you can check out Chris’s review here) and while we will have to wait a few years for that Josh Hamilton biopic, in the meantime we get one of the greatest men to ever play the sport’s story heading to the big screen.
Next year the baseball film that will be a must see, will be 42, the Jackie Robinson story. Now if you know anything about baseball you know how crucial of a role Robinson played for the game of baseball and breaking the color barrier with the game. Today we have a trailer for the film with features Chadwick Boseman who plays Robinson in the film. Also you will notice a little star named Harrison Ford in the film who plays the Brooklyn Dodgers manager Branch Rickey. Check out the trailer below.
The film tells the story of baseball legend Jackie Robinson, the first black player in Major League Baseball, who joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 and helped end the gap between the Negro league and the MLB. 42 focuses on the difficult transition Jackie faced within the Dodgers organization and his relationship with Dodgers manager Branch Rickey.
The film looks fantastic and I’m glad to see they are finally making a film that really give respect to both men who single-handedly changed the game of baseball forever.
42 hits theaters April 12, 2013, just in time for the 2013 baseball season to begin.
