One of the films premiering at Sundance this year is a little insurance comedy called Cedar Rapids, a new film starring Ed Helms, Ed Helms, John C. Reilly, Sigourney Weaver, Anne Heche, Kurtwood Smith and Rob Corrdry. The film is about an insurance agent (Ed Helms) who has never left his small town and is has been sent to represent the company at an insurance convention in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It is at the convention where he meets an array of characters and has an almost Hangover type experience, minus the actual Hangover (or maybe not).
The trailer is hysterical and if you’re a fan of Helms or Reilley this is a must see. The trailer shows you how wild insurance “professionals” can actually get at these conventions when given a bit of freedom. Hit the jump to read the synopsis and to check out the amazing trailer for Cedar Rapids.
The film is directed by Miguel Arteta (Youth in Revolt) and also stars Stephen Root, Alia Shawkat, Mike O’Malley, and Seth Morris.
When you watch the trailer though, the man that really steals it all is Kurtwood Smith, who goes all gangsta on us. Hit play to see what I mean.
Synopsis: To call insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), “naive” is a gross understatement. He’s never left his small hometown. He’s never stayed at a hotel. And he’s never experienced anything like Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sent to represent his company at the annual insurance convention, Tim is soon distracted by three convention veterans (John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) who will show him the ropes and push his boundaries. For a guy who plays everything by the book, this convention will be anything but conventional.
