Well it looks like Asians are starting to take a hint from Hollywood when it comes to remakes. If Hollywood can remake their films why can’t the Asian studios remake the Hollywood films? After the recent “remake” of Paranormal Activity 2 (Tokyo Night) we are now seeing another remake hit Asian cinemas, this time coming from China. What is it you ask? Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt’s romantic comedy What Women Want. Hit the jump to check out the teaser trailer and to find out which Chinese megastars are featured in the film.
Now, you may be asking yourself, why would they remake that movie? Well it probably has something to do with the fact that the concept can be easily translated into any culture, making it acceptable anywhere as long as the script is adapted for the cultural norms of the region. It’s also a romantic comedy which means that, for the most part, it is relatively honest and clean.
My favorite part about this remake is that it stars Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs, The Warlords) in Mel Gibson’s former role along with Gong Li, Hu Jing, Yuan Li and Banny Chen as part of the supporting cast. The film was adapted and directed by Chen Daming. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
Chinese residents can expect to see this film in theaters starting on February 14, 2011, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
