All eyes have been on Prince William and his pregnant wife, Kate Middleton, who will give birth to the next heir to the English throne within the month. Isn’t it timely that the trailer for Oliver Hirschbiegel’s film, Diana, starring Naomi Watts (The Impossible) has recently hit the web?
The trailer follows the People’s Princess in the face of her post-royal relationships, humanitarian work, as well as fending off the paparazzi while still maintaining a timeless image of elegance during red carpet appearances. Watts looks every bit the part of the late princess, especially with brilliant costume designs by Julian Day (Salmon Fishing in Yemen). However, we only get to see clips of a busy and hectic lifestyle, played over a dramatic piano-driven soundtrack.
Also starring in the film are Naveen Andrews (Lost), Canadian actor Cas Anvar, and Douglas Hodge (Robin Hood). For those of you who don’t know, the film captures the last two years of Diana’s harried life, including her efforts against land mines, as well as her relationship with Surgeon Dr. Hasnat Khan, played by Andrews.
Like many celebrities and prominent figures that we’ve lost too early, the film’s tagline is all too true: “The legend is never the whole story.” The film is set for a September 20th release in the U.K. and will surely hit theaters stateside in time for awards season.
