This past Friday marked the theatrical release of Tomorrow, When The War Began, an Australian film based off of the best selling series written by John Marsden. The movie is about a group of teenagers who go on a vacation to escape the countryside and upon their return they find out that their country has been invaded. I know, it sounds a lot like Red Dawn but the main difference is that it takes place in the outback.
After getting some bids at TIFF, ‘Tomorrow’ will be distributed by Paramount and will definitely be getting a US release date in the near future. Tomorrow When the War Began is just the first book in a series of seven so expect multiple sequels to be released. Judging from the trailer this is one of the largest budgeted movies I have ever seen come out of Australia so expect a lot of explosions in the movie. According to my friend who just saw the film, he says that it was very enjoyable and that the visuals are excellent, especially for an Aussie film. Tomorrow When the War Began is just the first book in a series of seven, so expect multiple sequels to be released in the coming years.
The film is Stuart Bettie’s directorial debut but you may know his name because he has written films like Collateral, 30 Days of Night G.I. Joe, and Australia. It stars Lincoln Lewis, Caitlin Stasey, Phoebe Tonkin, Deniz Akdeniz, Ashleigh Cummings, Chris Pang.
Synopsis: TOMORROW WHEN THE WAR BEGAN follows the journey of eight high school friends in a remote country town whose lives are suddenly and violently upended by a war that no-one saw coming. Cut off from their families and their friends, these eight extraordinary teenagers must somehow learn to escape, survive and fight back.
