I’ll say it, I’m not a war movie fan, or serious about watching very political dramas, so I could never be an expert on Tom Hanks movies. However, the trailer for Larry Crowne makes me think that this is finally the side of the two-time Oscar winner that we’ve all been dying to see, as the title character of course. Not to mention that he directed the comedy romance and teamed up with My Big Fat Green Wedding writer, Nia Vardalos, to pen the script. Vardalos also has a part in the film.
Starring with Hanks is none other than Julia Roberts (Eat Pray Love) who plays a seemingly stuck and underappreciated professor of a public speaking class whose life turns upside down upon meeting Larry, a middle-aged man seeking to reinvent himself after becoming unemployed, thus returning to college.
Also on board are Bryan Cranston (The Lincoln Lawyer), Taraji P. Henson (The Karate Kid), Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show), Rob Riggle (The Other Guys), Pam Grier (The L Word), Jon Seda (Treme), Rami Malek (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I & II), George Takei (Supah Ninjas), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Odd Thomas), and Cedric the Entertainer (Cadillac Records).
There are countless funny moments in the film’s trailer as the actor, who we haven’t really seen on screen since Angels & Demons back two years ago, continues to expand The Playtone Company’s résumé, which brought us films like That Thing You Do!, My Life in Ruins, Charlie Wilson’s War, and Where the Wild Things Are.
Without inspecting any other details behind this seemingly quirky and touching comedy, take a look at the trailer and let us know what you think. Do you like Roberts and Hanks paired together again on screen (since Charlie Wilson’s War)? Can the funnier side of Hanks sell tickets and be a success?
