The trailer for Chris Gorak ‘s sci-fi action thriller, The Darkest Hour, has recently been released by Summit Entertainment via Coming Soon and I gotta say, it looks pretty cool. It’s a semi-original concept when it comes to an alien invasion film but at least it looks very cool. You could say it’s looks like a mix between Skyline and Vanishing on 7th Street but if it comes out like either of them then this film is doomed from the get-go.
I will remain skeptical about the film until I see the full length feature because we’ve already been disappointed by Battle: LA and Skyline, two alien invasion flicks that showcased amazing graphics but ultimately failed everywhere else. While The Darkest Hour shows off its cool special effects from producer Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch), the story is something else that will have to be proven in the film, not something that tries to sell itself to me in the trailer. But it does have one thing going for it, the focus is on Moscow not LA so maybe that by itself will be enough to make this movie work (even though LA is a better target).
The film, which stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Max Minghella, Rachael Taylor and Joel Kinnaman, is “about the story of five young people who find themselves stranded in Moscow, fighting to survive in the wake of a devastating alien attack. The 3D feature film combines mind-blowing special effects from filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, with the vision of director Chris Gorak.”
