Mandy Moore has really stepped up her acting game in recent years, especially having landed the opportunity to perform at this year’s Oscar ceremony for the nominated song “I See The Light” for the animated feature, Tangled. However, what’s next for the multi-talented former pop star is the comedy, Love Wedding Marriage. An additionally noteworthy fact about this film that should be mentioned first and foremost is the actor who is making his directorial debut, Dermot Mulroney (J. Edgar).
The movie centers around Moore, “a happy newlywed marriage counselor’s views on wedded bliss get thrown for a loop when she finds out her parents are getting divorced,” according to IMDB. Moore’s husband in the movie is Twilight heartthrob Kellan Lutz, as Charlie. He falls into the same category as Channing Tatum for me. Maybe he can deliver a really stellar smooch fest on screen with a wide-eyed leading lady or show off washboard abs during a summer beach sequence, but can he really act? We’ll soon find out.
Moore’s splitting parents are played by Jane Seymour (The Wedding Crashers) and James Brolin (Angel Camouflaged), which seems like a smart pairing since both are well-known faces who could bring some down-to-earth maturity to a film that seems a quite high in hope.
Also in tow is Jessica Szhor of Gossip Girl fame, who I’m guessing plays Moore’s on-screen sister or best friend, Shelby. If all goes well for Szhor, who recently had a major fashion fumble at the MTV Movie Awards, it would then make sense why she left the CW drama that catapulted Leighton Meester and Blake Lively into the Hollywood spotlight.
While watching the funny trailer for Love Wedding Marriage, you can spot a cameo by real-life couple Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof (both of How I Met Your Mother) as troubled patients to Moore’s young psychologist character, Ava. However, Hannigan and Denisof are not credited in the film on IMDB, but perhaps I’m incorrect in picking out this pair.
Mulroney brought his vision for to the big screen from the script by television writer Caprice Crane and newcomer Anouska Chydzik. The director also managed to hook his My Best Friend’s Wedding co-star, Julia Roberts, to provide a voice as Ava’s own therapist, perhaps for over-the-phone sessions, according to the last line of casting credits on IMDB.
Set for a July 1st release, this movie could be dangerous for date night if you and your loved one are on the verge of exchanging vows, but at the same time, it’s more likely that you’ll laugh, roll your eyes, and have a fun time watching this feel-good comedy that has some lightly dramatic undertones. Check out the trailer below to get a first look at the family / relationship based hijinx!
If you’re a fan of Mulroney’s acting work, you can catch him next in the action / drama The Grey with Liam Neeson, due out next year, as well as the drama / romance Everybody Loves Whales with Drew Barrymore and Kristen Bell. Also, Moore is in pre-production for Falling Slowly, a supernatural drama, and she’ll be contributing her voice to the small screen’s TRON: Uprising next year.
